If I could do one thing all day and never have to worry about money again it would be to spend my time crocheting (much to hubby’s dismay, I’m sure). Sometimes laundry piles up and the dishes are stacked in the sink because I’d rather have my hands buried in a mess of yarn than dirty clothes or dishwater.
I don’t consider myself overly creative. I’ve never written my own patterns or come up with my own designs other than to make small tweaks to patterns obtained from others. I can, though, tackle the most complex stitches without too much swearing (most of the time).
My mother first gave me a hook at the age of 7 or 8 and showed me how to make a foundation chain and to single crochet. I made a few potholders – wonky, uneven shaped things that I recall my mother proudly using every now and then, bless her heart.
As school, and bikes, and friends became the norm of my day I let the hook go and it would be YEARS before I picked one up again. Those years were spent changing diapers, raising three boys into men (well, one more to go but he’s on his way!) and getting my own business off the ground.
If only my schedule would allow me to devote all of my time to my favorite hobby….sigh. It doesn’t, but it has become a bit more open. Someday, a little place on the beach and a craft room overflowing with skeins and skeins of cotton, wool, acrylics and more hooks than one can manage will be my happy retreat. Until then, I wanted to create a place to share ideas and projects and, so, The Sweet Posy is born.
